Register-Button-with-Photo.jpgBusiness News Network’s (BNN) Larry Berman, one of Canada’s foremost portfolio managers, is making Baycrest Health Sciences a benefactor on his latest cross-Canada investor education tour. The host of BNN’s top-rated “Berman’s Call” is calling for Canadians to invest in Baycrest.

Berman, host of TV’s top-rated “Berman’s Call” on the BNN and co-founder of both ETF Capital Management and The Independent Investor Institute (The Institute), has deemed his Toronto conference a “Baycrest Charity Event.”

Baycrest has had a direct, emotional impact on Berman’s life. His late mother received treatment here for dementia.

“I lost both my mother and my father in the same year, and both of them suffered from a degree of brain-related illness in their later years. It was really hard to watch, but as terrible as it was for me, it was worse for them,” he recalls. “No one should have to live through such indignity. Baycrest really helped my mom, and during my time visiting and speaking to doctors, I learned about all the research they are doing to help delay the onset of- and even prevent these illnesses entirely. It blew my mind to see how far the science has come in recent years and what may be possible in the near future. I had no idea that was going on at Baycrest. They are a global leader in cognitive neuroscience research.

“Any investor needs a sharp mind to make sound decisions. The whole point of investing is to make your money last, but what’s the point if you’re not in command of your faculties?”

This year, Berman and his business partner at Jared Rabinowitz made the decision to introduce a voluntary donation to support Baycrest for those who register for their seminars. “The events are still absolutely free to attend, if that’s what you choose, but it’s clear that Canadians from coast-to-coast may one day benefit from this groundbreaking research. It is our sincere hope that many attendees will donate to support the cause,” Rabinowitz says.

To help spread the message about Baycrest’s research to his viewership, Berman is pleased to have Dr. Randy McIntosh, Vice President, Research and Director of Baycrest’s Rotman Research Institute (RRI), join him as a guest speaker at his largest event of the year on May 4th at The Westin Bristol Place in Toronto. McIntosh is the lead scientist on the Virtual Brain, a computerized model of the human brain that captures its intricate details, structure and function, and will deliver the first open simulation platform of the brain.

Friends of Baycrest are welcome to attend any of Berman’s events, and are encouraged to attend the Toronto event to hear Dr. McIntosh’s presentation about The Future of Brain Health and Aging.

Since 2009, Berman and his companies have hosted BNN viewers and others looking to become better investors at free investor education conferences across the nation. “Our goal is to help investors develop the skills that ultimately lead to financial freedom. If we educate investors, we build their confidence and earn their trust. Giving back to the community is the cornerstone of our organizations’ values,” Berman states. “For that reason, it’s important that our events be in service of the public and entirely free to attend.”

Rabinowitz adds: “When we first started doing this, we paid for it entirely out of our own pockets. As attendance has grown, BMO Exchange Traded Funds and Scotia iTRADE have come on board as sponsors to help with costs. This year, we’re on track for a new record – more than 10,000 people will attend our educational events. Larry and I both get a tremendous sense of satisfaction knowing we make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

This year, they’ll also be making a difference for Baycrest and innovations, research, education and care in brain health.
