Last year’s Barrie 2 Baycrest ride was an experience that Alana Drimmer will never forget.
As a rookie cyclist, the ride was the first and last time her mother’s mom, Bubbie Sylvia Banack, was able to greet her at the finish line at Baycrest. At the age of 94, this past December, Bubbie Sylvia passed away.

“I’m a huge believer that the social and fitness programs at Baycrest extended the life of my bubbie,” says Drimmer. “In addition to the physical challenge of riding 100 km, I’m participating in the ride to support a great charitable cause.”

All funds raised by Barrie 2 Baycrest participants support therapeutic programs at Baycrest, allowing seniors to engage in important activities that contribute to their overall health and wellbeing. Now in its 21st year, the ride has raised more than $10 million.

In honour of her late grandmother, Drimmer recruited a group of family members to join the 2016 Barrie 2 Baycrest ride. Seven members strong, Team Bubbie Sylvia currently includes Drimmer’s father, husband and many of Sylvia’s grandchildren.

Drimmer says the camaraderie on the ride is amazing. “There are riders of every age and ability and I’m looking forward to crossing the finish line this year with my family and friends by my side.”
This year, Drimmer’s grandmother on her father’s side of the family, Bubbie Esther Kirshenblatt, will continue the tradition of finish line celebrations at Baycrest.

The 2016 ride will take place on Sunday, September 11, and participants of all skill levels are welcome. Riders can choose either a 50 km or 100 km ride. To learn more, visit
